Growing Support for a Plastic Petition.

At DEMA Show 2019, environmental exhibitor Lionfish University announced a petition to reduce unnecessary plastic use by trade show exhibitors and visitors at the DEMA Show 2020, with a special focus on “single use plastics”. It’s a start in a trending movement to produce sustainable events.

A 501C-3 non-profit dedicated to reef conservation and the impact of the lionfish invasion, Lionfish University has asked Industry Exhibitors and Attendees to plan ahead to reduce unnecessary plastic at all future DEMA shows. Given every single DEMA Show exhibitor is ultimately dependent on a clean, plastic-free ocean, eliminating single-use plastics is essential for business now, and the way forward for a sustainable future.

As a dive industry leader and advocate for the environment, you’ll be setting an example for your industry, attendees, other dive trade shows, and the world. ~ Lionfish University

REFUSE, REDUCE, RE-USE SINGLE-USE PLASTICS

Recycling isn’t working. Think about refusing single use plastic and reducing single use by bringing your own water bottle, reusable cutlery, and coffee container. It may not be so easy to completely eliminate single-use, so choose paper plates, and compostable takeaway cups instead of the regular plastic versions if they are available.

Pro Tip: Build yourself a “Trade Show Kit”

The trend is already brewing at DEMA Show 2019: Exhibitors and attendees have been showing up prepared to reduce their impact. Here’s a starter packing list of items from home that will help you be prepared for DEMA Show 2020:  Insulated mug for coffee or water; Stainless steel cup for Happy Hours; Metal or bamboo straws; Reusable silicone bags and beeswax wraps for snacks; Stainless Steel or Bamboo Cutlery.   (Courtesy Snews.com)

Keep Your Logo Out of the Landfill

Plastic swag is rife at most shows – and they don’t make or break the deal.  If you really think you need to give away a freebie, try a fun photo booth, or save the turtles with free metal straws. There are plenty of ideas to keep your logo out of the landfill available online.
